Alliance of Independent Sex Toy Testers

The Alliance of Independent Sex Toy Testers is a list of sex toy review bloggers who are trusted by the sex toy community.

What is the Alliance of Independent Sex Toy Testers?

If you spend enough time wandering the sex-toy-focused portion of the internet you’ll come across a whole bunch of review sites that look… how should I say this?… dodgy as fuck. Sites with ripped-off content, spammy ‘guides’ crammed with keywords, ‘reviews’ of toys that sound suspiciously like the person writing has never come across one in their lives… you get the idea. These sites usually use stock images of toys, or pictures they’ve stolen from legitimate toy bloggers, and then stuff their copy with praise for the toy plus a link so you can buy buy buy! Basically: they’re not legitimate reviewers, and they don’t actually try out the toys they are covering. They just use every Google trick in the book to try and beat genuine bloggers to the top search results, then wax lyrical about every toy in order to maximise the amount of affiliate money they make.

It sucks for you, because you’re not getting honest information about the product, and frankly it sucks for bloggers like me too, because it makes it much harder for our signals to be heard above the cacophony of noise from these spammy sites. To try and combat this, some of my fabulous blogging colleagues set up the… *drum roll* … Alliance of Independent of Sex Toy Testers! This is an informal, democratic group who have all signed up to a code of conduct that guarantees we actually own the toys we’re testing, and we’re approaching our work of writing about them ethically – details set out below. Scroll down for more information on the code, and how to join the alliance if you’d like to, but for now here’s the list. Please do go visit these excellent blogs for genuine, honest advice and information on sex toys.

I don’t pretend to be a top sex toy reviewer – or even, really, a good one. My ‘reviews’ are more like sex stories, and if you’re after the kind of rigorous and thorough testing you might expect from an X-rated Which? Magazine, you’re far better off going to one of my colleagues here than to me. But I do abide by all the standards set out below, and I think anyone who wants to recommend you products to put on or in your body should do the same.

Alliance of Independent Sex Toy Testers: Standards

  • All products recommended by the blog are body-safe.
  • All shops recommended by the blog are safe.
  • All blogs respect the diversity of gender and don’t gender sex toys as “male” or “female.”
  • All blogs are written by people who are passionate about the subjects they cover, not by people who are only trying to make money. Many of us make some money but it isn’t the main reason we write.
  • All of the writers in our alliance show honesty and authenticity in their reviews.
  • All of the writers of the blogs in our alliance can demonstrate that they genuinely own ALL the products that they review and recommend.
  • All writers are genuinely knowledgeable in their subjects. They don’t copy their content from elsewhere or “regurgitate” external content.
  • No blogs in the alliance contain discrimination, hate or material indented to shame/exclude.
  • No blogs in the alliance use questionable, unethical or uncompetitive methods to build links and advertise their website. In short — we are genuine bloggers.
  • There is a preference that the blogs have been up for at least 1 year and have at least 16 reviews published.

Want to join?

The Alliance of Independent Sex Toy Testers is a democratic system — all of us vote on who joins and who needs to leave.

Everyone on this list must post the list on their own blog, with do-follow links to all the other blogs. When a change happens to the list (i.e., addition or removal), you must update your list.

If you’d like to join, please contact sextoytesteralliance[at]gmail[dot]com or someone on the Alliance list. Your blog will be submitted to an anonymous group vote (each blogger on the list will assess your blog against the Alliance’s minimum standards). You will be accepted or declined based on a majority vote. The person you contacted doesn’t have more say on whether you get to join or not. If you don’t hear back, please follow up — it is taking some time to get all the logistics organised.
