Eroticon 2023 meet and greet: Hello I’m GOTN

It’s that time again! Eroticon 2023 meet and greet! If you’re new to Eroticon and you want to let people know you’re coming (so they can get excited to meet you/keep an eye out for you to say hello in the pub), join in and copy/paste the questions then post the answers on your own blog. I know the main point of this is to say hi, but it also provides an extra function which is encouraging those who might be wavering to buy a ticket (or apply for a free ticket if money is tight) and come join us. So… join us!

NAME (and Twitter/IG/Mastodon etc)

Girl on the Net (@girlonthenet on Twitter, mastodon.social/@girlonthenet), feel free to call me Sarah, GOTN (pronounced ‘Gotten’), G, or whatever you fancy to be honest. If you yell it in the pub and I turn around, that’ll do.

Tell us 3 things you are most looking forward to at Eroticon 2023

  1. Meeting new (and not-so-new) people! My biggest excitement comes from the opportunity to meet people I’ve worked with on the audio porn project/guest blogs but haven’t yet had the pleasure of meeting in real life. It’s such a thrill to get to meet someone in person and be like ‘HOLY FUCK I LOVE YOUR WORK’ so that is what I’ll be doing. Also excited to catch up with old friends from previous Eroticons, and (hopefully!) meet some brand new friends/acquaintances/potential-work-collaborators too! Fuck yeah!
  2. I’m wildly excited for loads of the talks and workshopsHannah Witton, Topher Taylor, Eleanor Janega, Sherryl Blu, Dr Carolina Are, Amy Norton, Blake, Neil Brown, Violet GreyKINKCRAFT! There are so many incredible talks and some of these I didn’t even know about till this morning when I skipped over to the schedule page, which has recently been updated. There are so many amazing sessions planned, on everything from working in the industry (Ness Cooper‘s talk on being a sex toy brand expert sounds super interesting) and getting better at writing (Dee’s session on inclusive language sounds incredible) to fun talks about specific niches (Zoe Burgess on MONSTER FUCKING!). As always when literally every single session sounds like it’s up my street, I am also looking forward to swapping notes and chat about the ones I missed in the pub afterwards. YAY PUB. (I’ll be running a couple of sessions too – a workshop on how to perform your work, and a talk on how to use Patreon to build a kickass team)
  3. JOINING IN. As with all community events, they essentially rely on the community to join the fuck in, and Eroticon is one of those events that has helped nudge me out of solipsism and into being a bit more active in the community. And there are loads of joining-in things to do: obviously the Kinkcraft workshops (I want to make something!) but also the Saturday kink demos (I have spoken to ElectraStim and offered my services as a guinea pig to see if we can break their record for longest electro chain so pls join in if you wanna help us smash this) and clapping very loudly/sometimes maybe shuddering with sexy joy and/or weeping with catharsis at the Sunday readings (my fave part of the whole conference).

Sadly with a change of venue this year for the Friday night meet and greet we won’t be compiling a play list but I know that everyone enjoys that bit so….

What is a song that always has you turning the volume up?

I’ve been struggling a lot lately with anxiety and some other shitty mental health stuff, and one of the things it’s impacting is my ability to… do stuff. New stuff, brave stuff, interesting stuff… basically anything outside my comfort zone. My world has shrunk, and I’m not fucking happy about it.

But recently I discovered this song and I’ve been listening to it a lot to try and remind myself that the things I fear are so much less frightening that the thought of never doing anything because I’m afraid.

Don’t wanna live as an untold story, I’d rather go out in a blaze of glory

(starts at 1:24)

What’s the first career you dreamed of having as a kid?

Mermaid.

What does your joy look like today?

I’m going to visit my incredible sister, eat dinner with her outside in the sunshine and have the kind of catch-up we’ve not had in forever.

What is your favourite musical?

Operation Mincemeat! Coincidentally, it also has a song that helps me feel a little braver.

Lift your hearts to the horizon, leave your fears upon the shore.

This one life is for the living, and we ask for nothing more.

If you were the captain of a pirate ship, what would be the name of your ship?

The Jolly ‘Tie This Wench To The Mast And Then Take It In Turns To Fuck Her’

As soon as you have finished answering these questions what are you going to do?

Lie on a bed and have a stranger shoot lasers into my neck

(I’m having laser hair removal for my PCOS hair)

Complete the sentence: I need…

…companies to pay my invoices quickly so I have time to order merch I can give out at Eroticon!

YOU need… to buy a ticket if you are a sex blogger/erotic writer/other erotic creative type and you’d like to come. Not long to go: 10/11 June (though the first social is on Friday 9th), in Camden. Grab your ticket if you don’t already have one! If you are struggling financially, you can apply for one of the free pool tickets before 22nd May. If you’re not a sex blogger/erotic creative type but you fancy coming to a weekend of kinky learning, check out the details for KinkFest in September.
